COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., May 14, 2014 – OutWest Systems, Inc. today introduced Software Release 2.0.3 for the Optical Computer-Aided Training (OCAT) Marksmanship Training System. The software release features innovative new capabilities, including six solo firearm exercise categories and two head-to-head firearm exercise categories. The exercises were developed to supplement the NRA courses used by instructors and coaches and help them achieve their goal of improving the student’s firearms shooting skills and techniques. “The OCAT System is used by instructors and coaches to teach students firearm proficiency and self-defense concepts,” said Paul Weissler, President and CEO of OutWest Systems. “We worked closely with NRA certified instructors to develop training exercises that help students become better shooters and to create a more enjoyable learning experience.” The OCAT System Software Release 2.0.3 includes the following interactive training exercises:
- Draw and Fire
- Timed Three Shots
- Timed Scoring
- Reaction Four Targets
- Reaction Clock
- Arc of Movement
Head to Head Mode
- Draw and Fire
- Timed Scoring
“The OCAT System interactive training exercises are an ideal supplement to an NRA certified firearms training course,” said Tom Grounder, Certified NRA Instructor and Founder of Defensive Logic. “With the new training exercises, we can now tailor our instruction to meet the specific needs of each student.”
Instructors and students can use the OCAT Marksmanship Training System indoor (laser mode), outdoor (live fire), or at a live fire range (indoor or outdoor). The system is lightweight, sets up in seconds, and doesn’t require any external power sources. The OCAT System provides a powerful, yet simple way for students to more effectively and quickly learn firearm fundamentals, techniques, and advanced self-defense concepts.
In addition to the interactive training exercises, the OCAT System now supports high-reliability, Web-enabled (IP) video cameras, which is ideal for long-range system configurations (1000 plus yards). “Our military, security personnel and competitive shooters have been asking for a reasonably priced, long-range marksmanship system that is highly reliable and portable,” said Jim Cline, Vice President and COO of OutWest Systems. “Our new USB-to-Ethernet hardware and 2.0.3 software delivers the perfect long-range solution.” The OCAT Wireless Long-Range Marksmanship Training System is one-fifth the cost of a wired system that is configured for 1,000 yards and is one-tenth the weight, making it highly portable.
Software release 2.0.3 allows customers to create multiple target setups and then easily switch between them for a new shooting environment. This all can be done with a few clicks of the mouse. In addition, the OCAT Marksmanship Training System is the only low-cost wireless/wired system that supports pan and tilt units.
