Q

Can I use an older computer?

A

Many older computers can run OCATS with no problems. The OCAT System program may run slowly depending on the speed of the older system.

Q

Can the software run on an Apple?

A

Yes, but the Apple computer must be bootstrapped with a Windows OS.

Q

How can I have multiple people hear the hit reports?

A

You can use the computer's headphone jack (or similar) to connect an external speaker. When only the shooter needs to hear the reports we recommend using earbuds under the shooting muffs plugged into the computer's headphone jack. Should more than one person need to hear the hit reports use a standard stereo splitter plugged into the headphone jack to allow multiple devices (earbuds, speakers, etc.) to be plugged into the computer.

Q

How often do targets need to be changed?

A

Once a target is sufficiently shot up that clean holes are no longer being punched a new target should be put up.  The system will register hits that remove at least some paper.  Overlapping hits that overlap no more than 50% of an existing hit will also be detected.  If the target it too shot up to support these conditions it should be replaced.

Q

What do I do if I am using the camera without a scope and the system is having trouble locking on to the target lock symbol?

A

Be sure the camera is located within three feet of the target. You can locate the camera to one side of the target, but the more in-line the camera is with the target, the better.

Q

What do I do if I'm using a scope and glare is washing out the target shown in the target view area?

A

Increase the scope's zoom level to help reduce glare from the target.

Q

What do I do if the computer's screen is reflecting so much light I cannot see the screen?

A

Use a sunshade and/or a anti-glare screen protector with your computer. These are available for purchase at shop.OutWestSystems.com.

Q

What do I do if the reported range values are inaccurate?

A

The system ships with range calibration values stored for the Celestron 52250 scope and Logitech C910 camera. If you are using a different scope or camera, the range values may be inaccurate. Use the Advanced > Calibrate Range menu command to store range calibration values suitable for your scope. You will need to lock on to the target at a known range with different scope zoom levels to accurately calibrate the system.

Q

What do I do if the system cannot lock onto the target lock symbol?

A

Check to following:

  1. Ensure the scope is well focused and the target lock symbol is in the view.

  2. Increase the scope's zoom if possible.

  3. Use a larger target lock symbol if reasonable.

  4. Increase the camera resolution from the Settings panel.

  5. Make sure the camera/scope is square with the target.

  6. Verify the target is not laying at a sharp angle to the camera.

Q

What do I do if the system responds slowly?

A

Try the following:

  • Lowering the camera resolution in the Settings panel under the Display category.

Note: The system may not be able to calibrate (no target lock) if the camera resolution is set too low).

  • Setting a smaller hit area. This can increase speed of hit detection.

  • Use a faster computer. Hit reporting should occur within one to four seconds of the hit depending on the speed of the computer.
